Chac sinks to one knee, the shattered remnants of the wooden shield falling from his weapon. He is gasping, staring at the destruction. Itzamna places a bloody, calming hand on Chac’s shoulder. They look up. The pyramid is broken, decapitated by the flames. Yet, as the thick black smoke momentarily parts, a gentle, unexpected rain begins to fall.
